(HomeGarden247.com, September 11, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - A resident of Michigan, Nathan Bluestien, had come up with elaborate plans for proposing to his fiancée. Bluestien spent months planning the event but had no idea what was in store for him on the day of the proposal.
Things started smoothly as he and his unsuspecting girlfriend, May Gorial, 32, clambered aboard a canoe for a seemingly innocuous weekend boat trip, according to the Associated Press.
The couple paddled along with Nathan holding the lunch bag tightly, "I made sure that she never could touch the lunch bag," he said to the Detroit Free Press. "I had it around my arm the whole time."
Nathan was clearly distracted by the plans he had made to propose to his girlfriend and was not pulling his weight as far as paddling the boat went. He did not even notice the strong winds that had started as he tried to put his plan into action.
A loud boat was passing by and with Gorial’s attention diverted to the boat Nathan saw this as the perfect time to put his plan into action; he then pulled a bottle out of his lunch bag and tossed it into the waves. Then he acted as if he had noticed something and said, “Oh what’s that?” to Gloria.
The bottle contained a letter that was made to look old with tea stains and edge burning efforts by Bluestein. The paper had a French poem meant for Gorial, who is a French teacher at the local high school.
The message of the poem was “You’re the love of my life”, Gorial told the Detroit Free Press and “I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.”
At this point, Bluestien whipped out the ring and popped the question. Gorial, surprised and happy, accepted the proposal.
That is when the couple noticed the three to five feet high waves coming their way . Thhey were nowhere near their destination.
They then decided to call 911and that is when the local Sheriff’s Deputies Sid Schock and Mathew Clark got into action and successfully rescued the couple.
The couple expressed their gratitude “If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have seen the wedding day," Gorial said -- in return the two officers "can expect wedding invitations in their future."
